Music and Dance on the Main Line
What is a class at Village Play Space like?
At Village Play Space, we provide Main Line area families with nurturing dance and music education, so they can develop a love of the arts and lifelong skills. Music and dance instruction can often be intensive and put too much pressure on your little one. We believe music and dance is and should be fun! This is why our instructor designed her special curriculum using a play-based approach. You can learn more about our instructor, Jessica, here.
What will my child learn in class?
Each class focuses on a different theme, used to introduce music/dance, songs, rhymes, and rhythms. These themes act as a fun and engaging platform for growth and a foundation to build new techniques upon already understood concepts. Classes include music and songs, interactive stories, hands-on interaction, group games, and more, which will not only build your child's dance skills but motor and social skills as well!
Past Themes Have Included:
On the Farm
Deep Sea Dive
Colors of the Rainbow
Classic Nursery Rhymes
Things That Go
and so many more!
Dance classes will focus on building the fundamentals of ballet through stretching, warm-ups, and across the floor exercises. Your children will learn combinations, technique, and choreography, and they will also make use of dance educational tools such as ribbon wands, rainbow scarves, and jingle bell bracelets. Each class concludes with 15 minutes of open play in our main play area. At the end of your child's twelve week session, your child will present a learned dance routine for you and your family/guests!
Music classes allow children to interact with and play instruments such as shakers, jingle bells, drums, tambourines, and more! Your child will get to experience live guitar and ukulele music. In addition, they will get the opportunity to socialize and form new friendships with other children as they dance, wiggle, and sing along to fun songs both new and old! Each class concludes with 15 minutes of open play in our play area. (Check out our open play hours here!)
Where do music and dance classes take place?
The instructional portion of classes (30-45 minutes) all take place in our separate classroom at Village Play Space -- just down the hall! The play portion of class (15 minutes at the end) is held in our regular play area. Our facilities have ample street and lot parking, a family restroom, changing table, and sitting area with complementary coffee and magazines to enjoy while your child takes class. Learn more about our play area here.
Does a guardian need to participate in class?
Guardian participation is not required for any of our dance classes, but is encouraged for our all-ages music class. Your children will love exploring and making music with you, and it is a fun and memorable experience you can share together! Village Play Space offers a sitting area in and out of the classroom based on your preference.
